It’s studio clean out day again here and I’m tired of my test prints piling up in a corner, collecting dust. I find myself tossing them in the trash just to make way for new work. Well no longer. A few things about Gumoil test prints.

• What are Gumoil test prints, you might ask? Allow me to explain. Test prints are the initial prints produced during the photographic process, where I review, assess, and refine my work before creating the final masterpiece. These prints offer a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes world of artistic creation With each new large print I make, I have to do some test prints to check the exposure and what-not. In addition, whenever I change something, a different paper for example or change my chemistry ratio or even try a different paint, I have to do some test prints to see how it turns out and make sure my process is still on track. Basically, each new image I create will have test prints from it. Once I’ve done a large 16x20 the test print stage is done. I’ll post them here if they’re interesting enough.

• Gumoil test prints can be messy, but… they have character. (Also… tape for masking the edges is frigging expensive!) I’m usually more concerned about capturing a usable exposure than keeping the edges clean. In doing so, these test prints exude a raw and authentic feel which I hope will captivate you, like it does me.

• Yes. they are real Gumoil prints, produced on premium archival paper, they are not reproductions, each print holds its own distinct charm.

• As a bonus, these prints come with the some personal notes on the back. Imagine having my expertise right at your fingertips!
